Spiralseed Services – What We Offer

Courses and Teaching

Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn” - With a strong commitment to liberatory education, Spiralseed have been organising and teaching permaculture workshops and courses since 1998. We have worked with projects including Comic Relief, Bioregional, Furtherfield, Naturewise, Designed Visions, The Sustainability Centre, Green Adventure, OrganicLea, Transition Town Brixton, Permorganics, Plan-It Earth, NuArc Health and Wellbeing Centre in Puglia, Italy, Ecosense eco-village in Croatia, Wild Earth Farm and Sanctuary in Kentucky and Ars Terra in Los Angeles. Our focus is on active learning, designing innovative courses and workshops that are participatory, lively and inclusive. Adapted from the Permaculture Association (Britain)’s PDC core curriculum, as well as methods including Systems and Critical Thinking, Group Working, 'Whole Person' Health, Skill Sharing, Person Centred Design, Appreciative Inquiry, Regenerative Economics and much more, we create regenerative learning experiences that will enable you, your organisation or your community to make positive change happen today. Whether a half day workshop or a full residential course, we can design bespoke solutions to meet your needs. Contact us if you'd like to know more...

Example Spiralseed Courses include;

Permaculture Introductory courses

An excellent way to find out more about permaculture is to attend a two-day introductory course. This ‘taster’ will provide an opportunity to actively learn about the principles and see examples of designs being implemented by groups and projects around this country and beyond.

Full design courses and longer events

The full 72 hour Permaculture Design Course is a vital stage in the development of understanding of permaculture ethics, principles, design processes and implementation techniques. Completion of the Full Permaculture Design course provides recognition as a Permaculture Design graduate, and enables you to go on to study for the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design.

Design 4 A.C.T.I.O.N.

Design 4 A.C.T.I.O.N. (Active Community Transformation In Our Neighbourhoods) is a different kind of course, bringing positive design to your life, your community and your world, using permaculture principles to empower the genius inside all of us! The focus of D4A is about regenerative learning, enabling individuals, organisations and communities to come together to create empowering solutions addressing the real world challenges we are all facing in these times of change. D4A can be adapted to a range of formats ranging from a half day workshop, evening classes, two or five day courses to a twelve day course spread over a number of weekends.

Vegan Permaculture Courses

Do you seek to live compassionately without the unnecessary exploitation of people, animals and the environment? Are you concerned about climate change, peak oil and future generations? Are you interested in changing how we interact with other species, ecosystems and our human communities? Then our Vegan Permaculture Design Course is for you!  It covers universal permaculture ethics, principles and design methods. However please note the focus is on non-animal based and stock-free systems & alternatives to animal exploitation.

Preparing to Teach Permaculture

For those interested in teaching permaculture, we can provide training events tailored to individual or group needs. Typically a Preparing to Teach Permaculture course will be run over 2 weekends, and will cover the basics of teaching within the framework of permaculture ethics and principles, lesson planning, creative learning and teaching styles and accelerated learning techniques, setting SMART outcomes, assessment strategies, how to keep learning vital and course convening. You will design a Permaculture Introductory Course that can be delivered within your own group or organisation, and will also have opportunities for observed ‘microteaching’ sessions where you can try out your ideas and develop your own teaching skills in a safe and supported environment. This course is suitable for anybody who has completed the 72 hour full Permaculture Design Course.

Participatory Design Services

In addition we offer Design 4 A.C.T.I.O.N. (Active Community Transformation In Our Neighbourhoods) services for anybody who is tired of 'the problems' and wants to make the changes they wish to see in this world. Our particular area of interest is in working with individuals, organisations and projects to enable them to develop actionable visions and goals. Our ethos is about dismantling the idea of 'The Expert' (who often is seen to have 'specialist knowledge' with a series of 'off the shelf' answers to which others defer), instead preferring to work in ways that are participatory with all stakeholders. In this way we can develop creative design solutions that are emergent from the group wisdom – we believe that EVERYBODY has the potential to be an agent for change and play a part in moving towards futures that are not only 'sustainable' but REGENERATIVE. In other words, not only reducing harm, but pro-actively leaving the world a better place than we found it. We see ethical person and planet-centred design as a listening process; a three way conversation between people and their environment, with the designer's role being that of a facilitator enabling the most beneficial outcomes for all parties. If this sounds like the kind of design process that would work for you or your organisation, get in touch - our fees may be fairer than you thought!
