I’ve had connections with workers cooperative OrganicLea for over a quarter of a century, including running regular yearly Permaculture Design Courses at their Hawkwood site on the edge of Epping Forest. In 2025 I was invited to be ‘artist in residence’ at Hawkwood as part of their ‘Radicle Growth’ programme reflecting on their last 25 years of community growing, as well as looking forwards to their next stages of development. This work fed into the Radicle Growth policy document, but in addition I spent lots of time wandering and exploring the 12 acre site, sharing meals and chatting with people ranging from 25 year project veterans to brand new volunteers, sketching, painting, running a zine making workshop and taking photos of the soil with a microscope. I’ve collected some of this material together as a limited edition zine.
